With nothing but your directional arrow keys you can enjoy Fly Guy, an amazing story-like odyssey by Trevor Van Meter that involves flying a fat, balding guy through an 8-bit universe full of amazing characters and interactions. It has also been referred to as a “highly interactive animation,” but that doesn’t quite cover the experience.
There are things that can surprise you and send you hurtling back to Earth, but the variety of animations and actions are incredible. Kind of like floating through the Beatles film Yellow Submarine while color blind. And fused with a Commodore Vic 20.

Not to be too pedantic, but technically it’s 1-bit, not 8-bit. Each pixel only has two possible values: black or null. (Which is rendered as white.) If it were 8-bit, you’d have 8 possible values for each pixel. (For example, 0 would still be null, but you could have 6 values for different shades of grey and one value for black. The original GameBoy did something like that, but used 4 bits per pixel.)
