Neocore Games to develop Warhammer 40K: Inquisitor – Martyr

Warhammer 40K Inquistor Martyr

Put the Hammer Down

Warhammer 40K Inquistor Martyr Eastern European studio Neocore Games has received the license to develop a new RPG, set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, for multiple platforms.

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr, will combine the setting of Games Workshop‘s popular science fantasy miniatures game with NeocoreGames’ extensive experience developing action RPGs, including three-game series The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing and tower defense hybrid Deathtrap.

The studio has also developed several strategy/RPG hybrids (the King Arthur series as well as The Kings’ Crusade and Crusaders: Thy Kingdom Come, all published by Paradox Entertainment), making them an especially good fit for this project.

NeocoreGames’ intent for Warhammer 40,000: Inquisition – Martyr is to combine classic action RPG elements with a more open-ended persistent sandbox game. Following a story-driven single-player campaign, the game will continue in what a company press release describes as “a colossal sandbox game set in the same secluded sector of this vast universe.” Additional content releases within the and ongoing development, NeocoreGames hopes, will extend the game’s life cycle.

In the Grim, Dark Future…

Warhammer 40,000, created in 1987 as a science fiction spin-off of Games Workshop’s tabletop war game, Warhammer Fantasy Battle, has already generated a number of tabletop and video game spin-offs, including Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf, a digital collectible card game for iOS, Warhammer 40,000: End Times – Vermintide, a cooperative first-person shooter/melee game, and Warhammer 40,000: Storm of Vengeance, a MOBA for PC and mobile devices. Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr, based on the now-discontinued Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor tabletop game, will be the first action RPG to use the setting.

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr is scheduled for release on Playstation 4, XBox 1, PC and Mac. While a release date has not yet been announced, the game will be shown at the upcoming Gamescom convention taking place in the first week of August in Cologne, Germany.
