Kindle Tips That Could Save You A Lot of Time

When I encounter a problem and finally find a solution, I can’t help but want to share it, since oftentimes, finding those solutions can be a very painful and lengthy process indeed, and when they actually work reliably, should become public knowledge.

Here are two that I discovered recently after my Kindle 3G/WiFi froze, reset and turned back on without any of my collections in memory! Considering I have over 3000 titles on my Kindle and have spent maybe over 50 hours sorting them into overlapping categories, this was not just one of those “sigh, I guess I’ll just start over” sorts of issues.

So here is what I did to fix it:

Kindle Collections Gone (and how to get them back)

  • Turn on Wireless
  • Go to Home
  • Click Menu button
  • Click on Settings
  • De-register the Kindle (make sure you know your Kindle account info before doing this!)
  • Re-register the Kindle
  • Click on Sync and Check For Items

At this point your Kindle should download and retrieve your Whispersynced collections back to the unit. Of course this will only work if at some point in the past you have had wireless on and Whispersynced your unit.

The second tip is something I picked up while fearing that the above solution may not work.

Better Book Sorting For Kindle

I used to sort my books into collections by clicking right on a book and then selecting “Add to collection”. There is a MUCH faster way of doing this.

  1. Begin by pressing the Home button.
  2. Scroll up to the top of the window and sort by Collections.
Now scroll down to the Collection to which you want to add titles and click right.

  3. Select the Add Items to Collection option.

This will allow you to go through your entire collection of books (which you can also sort by author, title or most recent) and then with a simple click add them all the to currently selected collection.

I hope the above helps save you a lot of time.
