Koramgame just launched the US Alpha test for their game Kungfu Online, and as a sucker for pretty art, I gave it a whirl. Like most international crossovers, there is some pretty blatant translation issues, however most of the storyline, while rather formula, has all the great cheese fans of old Kung Fu movies know and love. If you can’t find the humor in the KungFu classic abandoned babe scenario, this game is not going to be for you!
While the art is amazing, the game itself is all text descriptions and a pretty graphical interface. You start off as a 16 year old orphan trying to discover your past. The story is very much a KungFu standard. The game-play itself is text based with graphic interfaces, and leveling is like in many J-RPGs, you will often grind mindlessly for coins and EXP.
As you level however, you start coming into contact with what I consider the game’s shining features. While the point assignment for stats is normal, the Karma system is not only an odd addition but a very fun one as well. With every Arena type battle, you earn Karma, and that Karma can be used on your character’s chi pressure points to get permanent boosts. As you press all the points in a line, they give you even more bonuses, and picking one line over the other gives different bonuses. All in all, it seems to be shaping up into a decent browser game.
I would recommend it for fans of J-RPGs and The Green Dragon Inn.
The game is free, though takes time without using micro transactions.
